Preach on Papi

David Ortiz is not impressed with the lack of discipline the Commissioner and the MLB have failed to swiftly dole out, and with good reason. While the steroid talk won't vanish from the front pages hopefully those players who are clean can lead the way out of the mess MLB has on its hands. Get ready for more names to be dropped as well. The incessant rambling about these guys use and who did and who didn't will cloud the game for some time. As far as throwing out records did they throw out the numbers of guys who have used amphetamines or worse in the past?

As a fan, I for one am ready to get it over with and look forward to a cleaner generation of baseball. Did these guys cheat? Yes, but let's not act like this is something that every major sport has been guilty of. Why do people only take offense that it is baseball? Because so much is judged by the numbers shouldn't be the only reason. If you didn't know McGwire, Bonds, or Sosa were using you're a fool I was a teen and my friends and I knew plain as day. Did it change the fact that it was fun to watch those guys hit moon shots? No! Did it set a wrong example for future generations? Yes, but it is going to teach the next generations of athletes the consequences. In 10-20 years the proof will be when all these sports legends start dropping like flies and that will be the certain outcome. To believe the players are the only ones responsible is naive. The Player's Union, Owners, MLB, and the Commissioner are all to blame for letting this slide for so long without taking a stand. The fans are not innocent in this either. Take a look in the mirror and ask yourself if you wouldn't take something that would make you perform better, work less, and make you more money at your JOB if the majority of your co-workers were. Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey What is going on Here?

With the Pats a couple days from beginning another record breaking season in comes Pedroia and the Sox to steal the thunder. The Sox are in the middle of a great run for the playoffs and have started to establish themselves as a tough team to beat. Since dumping one of the greatest hitters ever to live the Sox have found their identity. At first they couldn't score runs that changed quickly and last night is a great example of that change. Pitching by Jon Lester got the job done scattering six hits, four walks, one run and getting some good team defense. But the hitting of the Sox was the story torching O's pitching for 14 runs on 20 hits. Ortiz had 4 RBI's while Pedroia kept up the MVP chatter with 5 RBI's, his 16th dinger, and 43 double on the season; all from the clean-up slot mind you.

This kid is playing on a different level. He is reaching Bird, Orr, Ballgame, and Brady level that you just don't see ever athlete reach. It happens when a player can't do any wrong they come up with the big shot, goal, hit, or throw when they need to. They drive opposing players and coaches crazy with their inability to make a poor play. It's lights out time where they can do no wrong. It is something fans are lucky to behold you know your guy is gonna take your team to the next level. Nobody saw Pedroia being this good, except maybe Theo (trading Hanley Ramirez) for know Pedroia was his guy. We are all just lucky to have this guy and this team that has found the chemistry to overcome the injuries and loss of Manny from the lineup. It seems every night another guy is getting the job done either in the field, on the mound, or at the plate. Hopefully the Sox can carry this over to the postseason when it matters. Something tells me they will or Pedroia will kick all their asses.
